In an inspiring tale of strength, Fahsai, a baby elephant just three months old with a name that translates to “clear sky” in Thai, is now recovering in Thailand after a harrowing ordeal. The young elephant faced serious injuries, such as being shot multiple times and caught in a hunter’s trap.
Fahsai’s difficult situation was brought to light in eastern Thailand recently. Locals who were worried about her discovered that her right foot was caught in a brutal snare, and she had multiple gunshot wounds on her shoulder. The quick response and caring efforts of the rescuers started her on the road to recovery.
The veterinarian, Padet Siridumrong, shared details of the intense rescue, explaining, “We were able to remove a large piece of a bullet, along with two smaller fragments.” This crucial first aid is just the start of Fahsai’s journey to getting better.
Fahsai needs regular attention to her wounds before she can have another operation to take out the rest of the bullet fragments in her delicate body. At the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Chonburi, surrogate mother elephants will look after her and make sure she gets the proper care and food she needs to heal. This interim plan is vital for Fahsai’s well-being until a permanent foster mother elephant is found to give her the love and care she desperately requires.
